Summary

Three club members traveled to Lima, Peru in early 2025 to explore possible relationships, connections, and partnership projects with a local Rotary Club. Their travel summary is shared below.

In August, 2025, Mike Dorin, a club member, visited Lima again, this time with two tablets and a projector to begin the technology enhancement project for a local school.  Read Mike's update below.

In September 2025 our club approved $5,000 for several of the projects.

PERU PROJECT GRANT

September 2025

Our Board has approved $5,000 to support several Peru Projects! This funding will bring new projectors to a school—helping students learn in fresh, engaging ways—and provide much-needed improvements to several community kitchens, making them safer and more functional for families.

Together, we’re making a lasting impact—thank you for being part of the difference!

MIKE'S AUGUST 2025 UPDATE

By Mike Dorin

Madre Loreto is a public elementary school located in Pueblo Libre, Lima, Peru, offering free education to local families. Madre Loreto primarily enrolls children from low-income households who lack the resources for a private education. The school was established in 1961, and its building was expanded in 1988 with support from Rotary. Madre Loreto, like many public schools worldwide, frequently faces a shortage of essential resources necessary for providing quality education. Despite these challenges, the school community works very hard to maintain a positive learning environment for its students.

One example of insufficient resources is the technology lab. This lab features a diverse collection of desktop computers, varying in make and model, with operating systems that range from Windows 95 to Windows 10, as well as Linux. An inspection of these computers reveals multiple property tags, indicating that they have been acquired from various other services before finally arriving at Madre Loreto. At this point, many of these computers do not even turn on. The school is also short of projectors for delivering content to students.
Because of this need, the Pueblo Libre and Eden Prairie Noon chapters of the Rotary Club are working to provide updated technology. Opus IVS has made a generous donation of tablet computers. These tablets are designed for use in an industrial environment, making them suitable for the rough handling of elementary students. At present, two tablets have been delivered along with one projector. The clubs are working to prepare and deliver 40 tablets before the end of 2025.

Note: Plans are being made to return to Lima with more technology and to continue to explore the possibility of other projects. Please contact Amanda, Club President, amandaottman@gmail.com, for more information.

  • Mike Dorin to return to Lima in August with 2 tablets to see if already donated tablets will meet the school's needs.
  • The Board will wait for Mike Dorin's return from his August trip to determine next steps in regard to the possible School Technology Project.
  • Possible follow-up trip to Lima in late October or November. If you are interested in being part of the next trip please reach out to Amanda, Tom or John.
  • The water project is a long-term project/goal that would likely require seeking matching funds from other clubs in our area together with our Rotary District and The Rotary Foundation.
