Stories
Please remember that there will be no Club meeting this Thursday, November 13.  Our Veteran's Day meeting at the Edina Country Club on Monday, November 10, was a replacement for this week's regular Club Meeting.  We'll see you next week on Thursday, November 20, when Jim Tchobanoff presents his thrilling story on his Antarctic venture.
On Monday, November 10, we honored our veterans at a luncheon at the Edina Country Club. Over 200 people attended this very important recognition ceremony in spite of the tenuous weather. Our club had 22 visitors and guests attend.

Diann Kirby, Past District Governor of Rotary District 5950 and member of the Rotary Club of Bloomington hosted the event. Diann introduced numerous dignitaries and officials from the Rotary and from state and local governments.

Diann also introduced a very special guest, 92-year-old World War II veteran James Garberg. This Edina native received the military’s highest honor – the Distinguished Service Cross – for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company K, 32d Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on May 23, 1943, at Attu Island, Territory of Alaska. It's people like this that make this the great country that it is.

Retired Brigadier General Dennis Schulstad introduced the speakers for the luncheon: Jackie Stenger and Angela Bedessem of the Minnesota National Guard. Jackie and Angela shared their stories with the crowd as they listened with great interest.

The Rotary Clubs of the Southwest Metro are proud to carry on this tradition of recognizing our military heroes for the immense contribution they make to our country.
